Big success for Mountmellick Martial Artists

Laois Martial Arts Academy kickboxers won a number of medals and trophies at a number of recent events around the country.

First event for the club were the Dublin-Laois interclub title fights. Nicole McInerney, Martine Daly, Glen Comerford and Byron McGuirk were both runners up in their final match off. They all took second place trophies for the club on the day. Peter Dunne won the title on the day in his category. He fought a great match to win this prize. All of the students fought tough fights and did the club proud.

The next day saw the club in action again this time at the Tallaght Open, where there was a repeat of the success on the Saturday. Nicole McInerney, Martine Daly and Byron McGuirk, who all fought the day before, all took second place in the competition. They all fought three fights to get to the finals in the light contact competition. First place on the day and the Tallaght Open U-10 Champion was won by Chloe Shortall.

Head Coach, Shane Culleton said that Chloe has had a brilliant year so far after already winning the WOMMA World Title back in August. JP Daly, one of the clubs three black belts, lost out narrowly on a medal on the day but was an inspiration to watch having made vast improvements to be able to compete at the black belt level. The clubs success is due to the constant support from parents and the hard work of all the students, who at such a young age train so hard to try and compete at this level.

They are remarkable for their age and set a great example for the young kids in Mountmellick. The club would like to thank its main sponsor BuyTrophies.ie for their support and help throughout the year.
