Laois Martial Arts kickboxer Shane Culleton has kicked 2013 off to a flying start.

Shane, who is already the current -71kg National Full Contact Kickboxing Champion and WOMMA World Champion has been training and fighting non-stop since wining the national title last April. Shane, who trains out of Laois Martial Arts, was competing last weekend in Co Dublin for the Mugendo Kickboxing -70kg title belt.

Shane commented that the four round fight went as planned. “My aim was to see what my opponent had in the first round and then gradually begin to put the pressure on, continuing to pick up the pace right to the end.”

Culleton went on to add that at no point did he feel under pressure, as he knew mentally that he had done all the work and that winning the belt was never a doubt. Shane is part of the Irish National Kickboxing team and is trained by former World Champion Jimmy Upton, admitted that he feels honoured to be able to compete at this level, with Jimmy Upton’s constant work and his own dedication to the sport being the key to his success over the past number of years.

Shane’s next outing is the Irish Open in Citywest next weekend followed four weeks later with his National Title defence in April. Shane would like to thank all his family, friends and club mates that came up to support him on the night. A huge thank you to his sponsor BuyTrophies.ie for their constant support.
