Ladies remain unbeaten as Killeen fail to halt winning run
Portlaoise travelled to Killeen Saturday night looking to continue their unbeaten run. Portlaoise started well moving the ball and getting great options with scores from Danielle Keane.

Killeen did not sit back as they scored through Ceire Murphy and Claire Dunne. It was a close first quarter as both teams were playing extremely tight defence. Portlaoise found it hard to break down Killeen’s defence as it was a low scoring first quarter, with the scoreline at Killeen 10 Portlaoise 12.
Portlaoise came out in the second quarter with a changed five to spice things up. Portlaoise started penetrating to the basket and getting great scores off fast breaks from Aoife Brennan and Anna Frasier. Portlaoise put pressure on the home side with great team defence. Killeen started to fight back with fine offensive scores from Nicola Rourke.
Coach Shane O’Neill called a time out to try focus his side. It was effective as Portlaoise then added scores from Anna Frasier. Killeen had no answer as Portlaoise went on a run. Portlaoise powered ahead and extended their lead. Portlaoise finished at half time in cruise control. Killeen 14 Portaloise 27.
Killeen started the third quarter with convincing baskets from Nicola. Portlaoise answered back with great baskets from Donna O’Connell and Rebecca Kelly. Portlaoise also stepped up their defence to shut out Killeen with great rebounds from Leanne Hayes and Rebecca Kelly.
Portlaoise started back with lay ups off of fast breaks from Danielle Keane. Killeen’s defence was falling apart as Portlaoise was in the driving seat and was looking good at the end of the third quarter. Killeen 18 Portlaoise 38
Portlaoise coach Shane O’Neill began to rotate the team, but also kept it strong, to see out the fourth quarter. Outstanding rebounding from Aoife Brennan and Anna Frasier made the tranisition to offence easy, Portlaoise kept calm and moved the ball around.
They continued to add scores from Niamh Sweeney and Amy Dunphy. Portlaoise continued with great defence and fantastic offence to finish well deserved winners to continue their winning streak, Killeen 26 Portlaoise 47
