Laois and Carlow fight it out in Killeshin

All roads lead to Killeshin this Saturday when Killeshin GAA will host a Fight Night Extravaganza.

For the first time two Carlow clubs, O’Hanrahans and Ballinabranna, will cross the county divide and go toe to toe with two Laois clubs, Killeshin and Crettyard.

Although it is a four way competition you can be sure the supporters loyalty to Laois or Carlow will also be a factor on the night. The event will be staged in the local hall, but to cater for the huge demand there is also a huge marquee being erected on site so that demand can be satisfied.

This event has been many months in the making according to one of the organisers Paul Brennan. He commented, “it is a credit to all clubs involved that we can put our differences on the pitch aside and come together to create a great event for all supporters to enjoy. Thirty six people from the four clubs have been training hard under the guidance of Andy Larkin for the past six weeks and it will all come to fruition this Saturday night when they finally try and prove their worth inside the ropes.”

Killeshin GAA were the first club to bring the fight night idea to this area when they staged a highly successful fight night with Arles Killeen and Ballylinan way back in 2009.

According to Paul this time it will be bigger and better.

“We are aware that money is not as easy to come by and with four clubs coming together we are now able to produce a much more glitzy night and deliver more bang for the ordinary supporter’s buck.”

This time around they have employed the expertise of local film production company Hedgehog Productions to give the night a bit of style.

“We will have two huge cinema screens in the venue so as no one will miss a thing. We intend to deliver the wow factor onthe night and will deliver over five hours of high class entertainment for the very reasonable price of €20,” conclude Paul.

The night will begin at 8pm sharp and each club will fight each of the other clubs three times on the night. There will be 18 fights in total and each winning fighter will be awarded three points if they should win their match. At the end of the night the club with the most points will be deemed the winner and will be awarded the winning trophy belt.

Demand for tickets has been extremely high and the event is practically a sellout. There are still a very limited amount of tickets available and tickets can be purchased from any of the four clubs involved.
