Portarlington Golf Club Open Week

The 3rd Tee from the Club house at Portarlington Golf Club

The 3rd Tee from the Club house at Portarlington Golf Club

Portarlington Golf Club has launched its Open Week which runs from Friday June 8 to Sunday June 17. The Course has never been in better condition, thanks to Pat Lyne, Course Manager, greenkeeper Paul Sheeran and his great team, and is ready to welcome a steady stream of visitors and members for 1o days of continuous golf.

The Club boasts a long and proud tradition, celebrating its 104th birthday this year. It is also one of the most progressive Clubs in Laois/Offaly, with a membership which is widely spread over several counties, including Dublin City.

Home of the Michael Moore Cup, and famous for its beautiful trees, red squirrels and deer, Portarlington is a magnificent parkland course right on the border of Laois and Offaly, defined by the River Barrow. The river provides the backdrop (and much of the challenge) for the final finishing holes. Returning visitors should note a recent change in some of the indexes – check the card of the course on our website.

Captains Conor McCusker and Helen Walsh invite everyone to come and visit during Open Week, to participate in team or singles golf, followed by a great meal in Courtfields Restaurant (which has just received its 2012 Paulio Tullio recommendation). Our special Open Week Menu has main courses from €9.50, with many starters and desserts to choose from, including John’s special Knickerbocker Glory!!

You can also shop for your golfing needs in our Golf Shop, run by Colgans Sports, the leading sports and leisure supplier in the Midlands.

Play on our magnificent course, rated in the Top Ten Value For Money Courses in Ireland, and try Kevin Markham’s “Best 14th Hole in Ireland” (Hooked, by Kevin Markham).

Open Week is packed with golf to suit everybody for the full 10 days. A Season Ticket for €40 is available to visitors and members from the Golf Shop, enabling the holder to play as many competitions as they wish over the 10 days. Fantastic value!!

There will be three presentation nights during Open Week with a great barbeque and party night with music and dancing on Friday June 15.

You will find a very friendly Club, providing a wonderful golfing experience, with great staff and great staff in our shop and restaurant.

Prospective visitors should also note that we have a Men’s Open Singles every Wednesday, and Seniors Open (Men & Ladies) on the third Friday of every month.

Looking forward to seeing you there!!
