Portlaoise started strong with baskets from Grace Delaney and Dorothy Quigley, which gave Panthers the perfect start. Clonaslee didn’t give up though and replied with a few baskets to make it a great first quarter. Portlaoise took a five point lead at the end of the quarter on a scoreline of 15-10.

Portlaoise came out in the second quarter with a lack of intensity which gave Clonaslee a great chance to get into the game. Coach Shane O Neill called a time out to get the girls going again. With great rebounding and scores in offence from Emma Colohan and Danielle Keane, Portlaoise came right back into it.

They began to combine great defence and great passes leading to some superb scores from Rebecca Kelly and Emma Colohan. Portlaoise were now cruising and had extended their lead at the end of the half, scoreline was 38-21.

Portlaoise started back as they finished with lay ups off of fast breaks followed quickly with Emma Colohan nailing two massive three pointers from beyond the arc which extended Portlaoise’ lead. Clonaslee fought hard to continue their come back with fine baskets from Niamh O’ Donovan. But Portlaoise’ defence was just too strong and at the end of the third quarter, the scoreline stood at 48-38 to Portlaoise.

Portlaoise coach Shane O’Neill changed the team up in the fourth, but it remained strong. Panthers saw out the forth quarter with outstanding rebounding from Rebecca Kelly. Portlaoise kept calm and moved the ball around, and continued to add scores from Danielle Keane and Leanna Hayes to finish well deserved winners to continue their winning streak, Portlaoise 61 Clonaslee 43
