Team Silvers kept their winning run intact on Sunday night in St. Marys hall by making it two wins from two in the double header for the Panthers club.

This game brought together the league leaders and bottom of the table side Tullamore with the gulf in class evident from the start to finish.

Team Silvers got off to a great start with some precision shooting from Dan Debosz and Peter O’Sullivan from three point range. They continued to put immense pressure on the Tullamore defence, moving the ball at pace in offence, picking off some great scores inside from Debosz. This created space outside for Paul Dooley and Greg Dunne to notch up points on the board.

Tullamore finally settled and got some fine scores from point guard Nasevicius. Portlaoise went in after the first with an eleven point lead and already in control of the game.

The second quarter saw Team Silvers push further ahead with the home side working the ball inside in offence with the big men finishing strongly to the basket.

The introduction of Shane O’Neill gave Portlaoise a quick outlet from defence to offence with O’Neill finishing off the fast breaks. He also finished the half with an excellent three to push Team Silvers lead out to nineteen points at half time.

Team Silvers eased off in the third quarter as they worked the ball around in offence. The home side again outscored Tullamore in this quarter as Dan Debosz added to his game high tally of 29 points showing his talent both inside and outside the key. He was ably assisted by Ger Egan and Peter Duignan in the post.

The fourth quarter was a formality for the home side but Portlaoise didn’t sit back on their lead.

Team Silvers scored an amazing 31 points in the final ten minutes controlling the game from top of the key through Rody Mc Evoy and Gary Donnelly. Portlaoise finished with an exhibition of shooting from the three point line with Dunne, O’Neill and O’Sullivan scoring four between them.

Team Silvers now look to keep the momentum going after this performance as they will definitely need to be aware that tougher games are ahead in the run-in.

TEAM SILVERS: Paul Dooley 3, Shane O’Neill 16, Rody McEvoy, Peter O’Sullivan 12, Peter Duignan 7, Gary Donnelly 4, Greg Dunne 9, Dan Debosz 29, Ger Egan 4. Coach Niall Maher
