Two Laois amateur golfers played a significant role in Ireland winning the Four Nations Golf Challenge Grand Final in front of the Sky Sports television cameras at The Oxfordshire GC last week.

Eddie Kelly and Antoinnette Russell (Rathdowney GC) progressed through knockout rounds and a regional qualifier to make the 12-man Ireland team, who triumphed for the second successive year in the annual tournament.

The duo won the opening pairs semi-final game against Scotland by the comprehensive margin of 7&6 in challenging wet weather as the team triumphed 4½-1½ to set up a final match with Wales.

Kelly and Russell were sent out first again in the final and although they lost 3&2 in windy conditions it didn’t affect the result as the Irish retained their crown with a one point success.

England, who drew 3-3 in the semi-finals with the Welsh the previous day before losing a sudden death play-off, clinched the third prize as they recorded a 4-2 victory over Scotland.

The Grand Final will be televised on Sky Sports with the following broadcast times:October 15 - 18:00 on Sky Sports 4 ; October 16 - 02:00 on Sky Sports 4 ; October 16 - 08:00 on Sky Sports 3; October 16 - 15:30 on Sky Sports 2
