Stunning success for young Laois rider at National Festival

editorial image

Billie-Mae Geoghegan and her pony BB Beroose from Ballacolla, and representing the Laois Hunt branch of the pony club, won the U-12 Derby Challenge at the national Irish Pony Club Festival in Barnadown Showjumping in Wexford last week.

It was a superb win for Billie-Mae who has been ahead of the rest throughout the summer events.

Third last to go in the competition, she earned 82% in her dressage test to go into the lead. She followed that with a clear in the showjumping and then another clear over the derby track. That meant she stayed ahead to finish 10 points in front of her nearest rival to win.

This follows on from two other big wins this summer for this combination.

Her first success at the beginning of July was on home ground at Stradbally Hall, where they came first in a very a competitive U-12 section at the Loais Pony Club one day event.

Two weeks later they won at Coilog Equestrian Centre in Kildare, at the Area 2 Pony Club Combined Training, winning again by a good margin.

This laid the way for the amazing victory at Barnadown for the Laois pairing for their club.
