After the controversy surrounding his selection for the team and the ensuing court drama last week, talented young Portlaoise boxer Michael O’Reilly finally got back in the ring yesterday and had afine win over Ivegeni Barabanov of the Ukraine at the European Youth Championships.

The 18-year-old welterweight had been dropped from the Irish team for the event but was re-instated following his court challenge against the IABA decision.

The Brandenburg Cup Champion won a close fought bout on Wednesday by a single point, 17 to 16.

He is one of eight Irish boxers on the brink of medals at the championships being stagd in Dublin.
