Port brothers win medals at World Cup

The Taekwon Do World Cup was held in Brighton from October 4 to October 7 with over 40 nations and over 1600 competitors taking part.

Two black belts from Portarlington Taekwon Do School, brothers Sean and Jason Keogh Gincell took Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at this event.

Sean Keogh Grincell, a seasoned international competitor fought his way impressively to the finals in the individual junior sparring –70kgs defeating opponents from Scotland, Uzbekistan, Poland and Canada before meeting another Scottish opponent to take Silver medal in this event.

Sean was also competing in the team sparring event while defeating the Russian team in the opening round, the team was deprived of a medal in the event by Slovenia in the quarter finals.

Jason Keogh Grincell made his debut in International competition at this years world cup, As part of the Irish Patterns team, he won Gold have defeated England, Uzbekistan and Israel in the finals. This team also won a Bronze Medal for Sparring defeating Romania in the opening round but losing out to the Russian team in the semi finals, Russia ultimately went on to win the event.

Jason also competed in individual sparring, winning his first bout against a competitor from Uzbekistan to then face an opponent from Israel who went on to win Silver
