SEVEN boys from Portlaoise Gymnastics Club competed at the Level 2 National Finals on recently in Phoenix Gymnastics Club,in Dublin with one coming out on top in his Final.

Edgar Katelovic (U-7), Matthew Coonan (U7), Nathan Flanagan (U-7), Alex Dunne (U-8), Sean Donoghue (U-10) and Arthur Katelovic (U-12) all competed extremely well and with great composure on the day however Conor Donoghue fended off some very tough competition to win the gold medal in the U-12 category. Conor doesn’t pick it up off the ground as his father, Denis Donoghue, was a gymnast who competed internationally in the 80s and 90s.

Denis keeps us his connections with the international organisation, by representing Ireland as a brevet judge at National and International competitions. It is very likely that he will judge the Mens Gymnastics Finals at the London 2012 Olympics.

Six girls from Portlaoise competed at the National Level 2-7 finals in the Sugarloaf Gymnastics Club, Greystones, Co Wicklow on May 20 : Michelle Baikulova (Level 2 U/9), Aoife Dowling (Level 2 U-13), Zahra Khodabacksh (Level 3 U/9), Lauren Barry (Level 3 U/11). Orla Wilson (Level 4 U/11), and Anna Healy (Level 4 U/11).

All the girls competed to the best of their ability and did the club proud. However, the standard of competition was particularly high. And while we did not place, it was a learning experience for all the girls and a great day was had by all.
