Portlaoise’s Alison Miller picked up where she left off from last year’s Women’s Six Nations Championship with a brace of tries against Scotland in Ireland’s opening game.

Played in miserable conditions in Ashbourne on Friday evening, the flying Laois winger’s first try of the game after nine minutes in a 59-0 rout.

Her second try was an outstanding individual effort as she picked up possession in her own half before sprinting down the left wing dodging would be tackles from covering defenders.

Miller scored five tries for Ireland on their historic march to a first Grand Slam last year and she is already showing the same form this year.

Elsewhere there was also an Irish debut at U-20 level for Abbeyleix’ Rory Moloney against Scotland in Dubbary Park in Athlone on Friday evening. The Abbeyleix native, who plys his trade with Buccaneers and Connacht, is the current Ireland U-19 captain and he came on for his U-20 début with 20 minutes to go in an emphatic 34-7 win.
