Arlington lose out in opener

Arlington had a disappointing start to the season as they suffered a narro defeat to Athlone side Monksland Utd.

The only goal of the game came early in the match, when an in-swinging corner was not properly cleared and was poked home from close range.

Despite this early setback, Arlington defended quite well for the game, especially in the first half in the face of a strong wind.

Robbie McNeill was a constant threat on the right wing as Arlington tried to battle their way back into the game. Alan Glass was dangerous at set pieces and came close on a couple of occasions, while Barry Kenny saw his effort expertly turned over the bar by the Monksland ‘keeper.

Arlington kept fighting till the end and were not found wanting for effort but their reward never came as they ran out of time and Monksland held on for the three points.
