Brave Portlaoise fall just short of miracle comeback

Portlaoise Town went to Mullingar last Saturday to play the second leg of the MSL U-14s Cup after losing the first leg at home 4-1 two weeks ago.
Portlaoise started this game in fine form and after five minutes Brian Sheehy fired home after being set up by Oran Murphy. Portlaoise added a second on 10 minutes when a corner from Ruairi Lewis was headed home by Brian Sheehy to make it 2-0 and at this stage Portlaoise were completely on top and looked like they were going to win this match.

Brian Sheehy completed his hat-trick on 25 minutes when after great passing between Fionn Scully Joe Nevin and Ruairi Lewis send Oran Murphy away on the right wing and his cross was finished to the net by Brian Sheehy to make it 3-0 and this is how it finished at the break with the sides now level on aggregate.
Mullingar came out for the second half all guns blazing and only for some fine goalkeeping by Sean McCormack prevented them from scoring in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Then in a 20 minute spell Mullingar hit five goals without replay to lead 5-3 and this was how the game finished to leave Mullingar winner by 9-4 on aggregate.

Aiden Keena the Mullingar central midfielder was the driving force behind this comeback and as well as scoring four goals he was involved in the move for the other goal scored by Patel. This was a game of two halves and Portlaoise just fell apart in the last 20 minutes of the game and Mullingar dominated in this period and this was where the game was won.
