The second round of matches in the Irish Power Soccer Premier League took placerecently at the University of Limerick Sports Complex.

Midlands United Power Wheelchair Soccer team took on St Joey’s, Dublin in their first match. A strong performance saw United run away comfortable winners on an 8–0 score line.

Notable displays came from Neil Sheehan and Aisling McEliggott, particularly Neill who has just returned to the game after a four year absence.

In the second match, United played Trail Blazers, Belfast in a much anticipated top of the table clash. This was expected to be a very close affair, given the fact the last time they met a single goal by Belfast proved to be decisive. United felt they had something to prove and went into this game determined to make amends for their last encounter.

The first half was very tight with neither side giving much away, except for one breakaway by Belfast that took a magnificent stop by Emmett Daly preventing what would have been a certain goal.

In the second half United upped their game and in the tenth minute, after good build up play by Emer O’Sullivan, Tom Donogher calmly drove the ball into the goal. 1-0 to United, a lead they were to hold until the end even though Belfast pressed hard for an equaliser.

So, after round 2 matches United top the Premier League table three points clear of their nearest rivals. Next round of matches are in November.

Team: Sean Donogher, Aishling McElligott, Emer O’Sullivan, Aoife McNicholl (Capt), Tom Donogher, Emmett Daly, Neil Sheehan.
