Portlaoise in seventh heaven

Portlaoise Town returned after the Christmas break with this impressive victory over Tullamore Town last Saturday morning in Rossleighan Park.Portlaoise have now won nine out of nine in the League this season and just need four more points to win the MSL Major Division Title for the third time in four seasons.

Portlaoise were quick out of the blocks and after four minutes a good passing move involving Ruairi Lewis and Brian Sheehy set up Oran Murphy in the box and he shot low into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. Murphy then made it 2-0 on 10 minutes when a brilliant pass fron Brian Sheehy sent him through and he slotted it low past the keeper.

On 20 minutes Oran Murphy turned provider when his brilliant cross from the right was headed home by Kaelyn Thompson to make it 3-0 to the town. Portlaoise scored again on 28 minutes from a corner from Kaelyn Thompson on the right and Ross Brennan fired home from five yards to make it 4-0.

Portlaoise were completely on top at this stage and played some lovely football with their passing and moving being outstanding and it came as no surprise when on 33 minutes Oran Murphy scored his hat-trick to made it 5-0 with a brilliant shot from just inside the box after being set up by Ronan McEvoy and Ross Brennan.

Tullamore had two good chances early in the second half but good work by Sean McCormack Conor Lacken and Aaron Feane kept them the score at 5-0.A fine passing move involving Fionn Scully Ruairi Lewis and Aaron Wright on the right was finished to the net with a fine header from Oran Murphy to make it 6-0 to the Town on 50 minutes.

Brian Sheehy then made it 7-0 on 60 minutes when he headed home after a brilliant cross from Kaelyn Thompson from the left wing.Tullamore then scored in the last minute when their centre forward drove the ball into the net after the Portlaoise defence

failed to clear a free kick to leave the score at the final whistle 7-1.

This was a fine team effort by Portlaoise with all the player playing to their best but Oran Murphy was again man of the match with his 4 goals to bring his total this season to 34 goals. Brian Sheehy Craig Reddin Niall Doran Kaelyn Thompson and Ruairi Lewis were also prominent for the Town.
