Portlaoise man to represent Ireland

Portlaoise soccer player Ollie Carroll has been selected to represent Ireland at the Street Soccer World Cup in Mexico later this year.
Ollie’s team Blue Angels were victorious in the Portlaoise Street Soccer League 2011. From there they competed in the National Street Leagues in Kiltipper, Dublin in April with 400 other players from around the country.
Ollie along with David Nevin, David Holohan and James Holohan he was selected for trials for the national squad. Of the four local players, Ollie made it to the last eight who will represent Ireland in Mexico.
Ollie is continuing his training twice weekly in St Catherine’s, Dublin in preparation for the competition. Ollie is the second player from the Portlaoise Street Soccer League to be selected for the Ireland squad, following on from the success of Brian Farrell who competed in the Street Leagues World Cup in 2010.
