Seven heaven for Portlaoise

Portlaoise Town continued their unbeaten run this season in the MSL Major Division with this emphatic win over Killeigh last Saturday in The Pond Grounds, Killeigh.

The first 15 minutes was fairly even with no side gaining the upper hand and chances were scarce in this period, as Aaron Feane in defence and Brian Sheehy in midfield were the Town’s best players.

Portlaoise took the lead on 20 minutes when Oran Murphy struck a brilliant volley from just inside the box to make it 1-0. Fionn Scully then made it 2-0 on 25 minutes when he lobbed the keeper from 20 yards. No more chances were created in this half and it was 2-0 to Portlaoise going into the break.

Portlaoise came out in the second half all guns blazing and after 40 minutes Kaelyn Thompson made a great run from midfield to drive a brilliant shot to the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-0.

Craig Reddi,n who was having a outstanding match in midfield, sent Aaron Wright away on the left wing and his brilliant cross was met by Ronan McEvoy who fired a unstoppable shot to the top corner of the net to make it 4-0 after 50 minutes.

Oran Murphy then made it 5-0 on 55 minutes when he shot to the bottom corner of the net after being put through by Craig Reddin.

Craig Reddin made it 6-0 on 60 minutes when he scored from close range after the Killeigh keeper made a good save from a Fionn Scully shot.

Oran Murphy then scored his hat-trick just on full time with a brilliant turn and shot from outside the box to make the final score 7-0 to Portlaoise.
