As part of their centenary celebrations, Abbeyleix ICA will be showcasing their arts and crafts at an exhibition in Abbeyleix Library from this Saturday January 25 to Saturday February 8.

The exhibition will display a wide variety of art and crafts, including Mountmellick embroidery, paintings, knitting, sewing and other embroidery as well. Alice Reilly who is secretary of the guild, told the Leinster Express that the ICA is a great way of getting to know people as well as learning new crafts.

“I joined at 24, it was a great way of getting out and meeting people. And these are skills that have been forgotten about”. There are 21 members in Abbeyleix ICA. As well as arts and crafts, the group are involved in a number of activities, especially in Abbeyleix. Last year they were in the St Patrick’s Day parade, and often collect for charity as well as putting their baking skills to good use. Everyone is welcome to visit the exhibition.
