Today’s youth will hopefully never be subjected to the horrors of war, but lest the past be forgotten an interactive show offers the chance for children to experience what life was like during World War I.

‘Irish History Live’ will be staged at Laois libraries during Laois Heritage Week. On Tuesday, August 26, the show will be in Mountmellick Library at 10am, Portlaoise Library at 12pm, and Abbeyleix Library at 3pm; while on Wednesday, August 27, it will be in Mountrath Library at 11.45am, and Portarlington Library at 2.30pm.

Presented by Michael Moylan, the one-hour show offers children aged eight to 12 years the chance to dress up in costumes and use museum-quality replicas of historical artefacts. Booking for these shows is essential.

Staying with the theme of World War I, author Neil Richardson will visit Portlaoise Library at 6.30pm on Wednesday, August 20, to discuss his book ‘A Coward if I return, A Hero if I fall’. He will speak about the book and also about researching relatives who may have fought in World War I. This event is designed for adults and booking is essential.
