Last week saw the preview of Home:Place – celebrating Traveller pride at the Portlaoise Heritage hotel. The preview took place at the AGM of the Irish Traveller Movement ahead of the project’s local launch on July 16 at Portlaoise Parish Centre at 2pm.

Home:Place is an interactive installation in a series by visual artist Jayne Louise Kelly and poet David Delaney in collaboration with Laois Traveller Interagency Group (LTIG). Jayne and David work together using mixed media to evoke and encourage the participant to engage with the installation and to encourage stimulation of mind, body and soul. Jayne’s intricate and intimate encouragement of her organic work to tell stories incorporates David’s creative concepts and words to merge into one, providing a platform for visitors to engage. The concept was applied by local Traveller groups to create the work that will be on display at the launch.

Jayne and David have collaborated and exhibited installations in empty shop units, standalone pieces and Heritage centres, applying this unique ‘life-mapping’ concept they have also exhibited to critical acclaim for the last two years at The Electric Picnic festival and will feature in the 2014 art lineup for EP.
