Kids get creative at art workshops

Young artists and musicians from across the county got to show off their talents at this year’s Laois County Council Summer Arts Workshops.

The workshops were held throughout the month of July in various locations.

The first week saw artist Siobhan Keogh help children make lots of creative artwork in Kiln Lane Community Centre.

Finn O’Hara led pottery workshops in the second week, while the emphasis in the the third week was on enjoying the experience of learning new ways to make art with artist Conor Brennan.

In Portlaoise, writer Ann Egan gave a creative writing course for young people, using themes such as ‘your favourite place ever’ to develop their writing skills.

Laois Arthouse in Stradbally hosted some fantastic fun in the final week when resident artist Caroline Keane showed the children how to turn waste into pieces of art.

Music Generation Laois also completed their summer programme in Portlaoise, hosting a series of masterclasses, a finale concert in the Youth Education Building Portlaoise, a week of ‘Rock and Pop’ and a finale concert in the Dunamaise Arts Centre.
