Local artists are looking for a caravan

“Home is a place – defined by different things to different families and indeed to different cultures.”

Home:Place is an interactive installation in a series by Portlaoise based visual artist Jayne Louise Kelly and poet David Delaney in collaboration with Laois Traveller Interagency Group (LTIG).

Jayne and David work together using mixed media to evoke and encourage the participant to engage with the installation and to encourage stimulation of mind, body & soul.

Jayne’s intricate and intimate encouragement of her organic work to tell stories incorporates David’s creative concepts and words to merge into one, providing a platform for visitors to engage.

Jayne and David have collaborated and exhibited installations in empty shop units, standalone pieces and Heritage centres, applying this unique ‘life-mapping’ concept they have also exhibited to critical acclaim for the last two years at The Electric Picnic festival.

Home:Place will provide a real space for all to celebrate, appreciate and indeed better understand Traveller culture and pride, weaving stories, songs and poetry to map out and illustrate key areas of Traveller culture, within the environs of a caravan.

Jayne and David will facilitate workshops where members of the Travelling community will create their own pieces, each to be woven into the story of the Home:Place.

These pieces will consist of patchwork clothes and quilts, photo storybooks, audio loops and artefacts pertaining to the relevant day to day issues faced in Irish Traveller culture e.g. religion, tinsmitthing, craftwork and stories from the open fire but to name a few.

Jayne and David are seeking a caravan to facilitate this project and have a small budget for its purchase.

Those who can help or who wish to find out more information on the project can get in contact with David at 087 9423741.
