Budding young trad musicians will have a chance to fine tune their talents this month with some top class musicians.

Music Generation Laois will be hosting a traditional music summer school from today, July 1 to July 3.

This includes three days of workshops in fiddle, accordian, concertina, bodhran, harp, uileann pipes and flute.

The tutors for the workshops include Denise Boyle on fiddle, Brendan Quigley on accordian, Robbie Walsh on bodhran, Eoin Begley on concertina, Claire O’ Donnell and Una Ni Fhlannagain on harp, Leonard Barry on uilleann pipes and Gerry O’ Donnell on flute.

Classes are suited to players with some experience.

There will also be masterclasses with Catriona McCay on harp and Chris Stout on fiddle on Thursday July 3.

The fee for the workshops is €50 and they take place at the youth education centre on Railway St in Portlaoise from 11am to 1pm and from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. There will be a student/tutor concert on July 3 to mark the end of the school.
