Music Generation Laois has hosted four big collaborative concerts throughout the county.

A Glee and School of Rock and Pop concert in the Dunamaise Arts Centre Portlaoise on Sunday the 8 of June, a Summer Choral Concert in The Heritage Hotel Killenard on Tuesday the 12 of June, a Summer Choral Concert in Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Thursday the 12 of June and a Final Concert in Mountmellick Community Arts Centre on Friday 13 of June featuring young musicians and singers from the Mountmellick area.

Over 750 children and young people participated in these concerts, which were a huge showcase and celebration of the work taking place throughout the county through Music generation Laois in schools and youth clubs. The variety and vibrancy of the programme was evident through the range of musical styles across the 4 large-scale concerts, including Glee, Choirs, the School of Rock and Pop, Harp and Stampede (African) Drumming.

In addition to these large collaborative concerts, 19 additional concerts were hosted in schools throughout Laois. Rosa Flannery, Co-ordinator of Music Generation Laois explained that ‘it is vital that we have well-organised and professional performance opportunities for the children and young people in our programmes, all these young musicians and singers did their County proud as they raised the roof in hotels and theatres in Portlaoise, Killenard, Abbeyeix and Mountmellick!’

Music Generation Laois is based in Laois Country Council, and is supported locally by Laois County Council, Laois Offaly ETB and Laois Partnership Company. The Glee Clubs programme is delivered in association with Laois Partnership Company. Nationally Music Generation Laois is funded by Music Generation, an initiative of Music Network, and funded by U2 and the Ireland Funds.
