THIS year’s Leaves festival is providing a great opportunity for budding poets to turn their ideas into finished pieces, when the festival hosts a poetry workshop this weekend.

Poems Beget Poems with Niamh Boyce takes place on Friday November 9 in the Dunamaise Arts Centre from 10am to 4pm. Existing poems can contain seeds for new poems. Participants can bring along a poem they have written and explore the possibilities of generating a sequence from the piece. This workshop would suit writers who have begun to write poetry and would like to explore it further.

From Athy in Kildare, Niamh Boyce was awarded the Hennessy XO New Irish Writer of the Year 2012 for her poem ‘Kitty’. Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Francis McManus Short Story competition 2011, the Hennessy Literary Awards 2010 and the Molly Keane Award 2010. Her novel ‘The Herbalist’ will be published by Penguin in 2013.

The workshop fee is €30 and booking is essential. To book visit www.dunamaise.ie or contact 057 86 63355.
