Port’s musicians shine in Sligo

The Portarlington branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann had students competing across all the age groups at this year’s All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil held in Sligo over the weekend.

Some 40 local music fans travelled on the Saturday to support the competitors competing on the day.

Congratulation were extended to Ciara O’Donnell, Kate MacDonald, Eimear O’Loughlin, Ella Kearney, Caoimhe Daly, Ailish O’Donnell, Diarmuid Faherty, Laoise Daly, Ciara Faherty & Natalie Arimu, members of the Roscarrig u/15 Ceili Band on securing third place in a line up of twenty bands from Ireland, UK and the USA.

Congratulations were also extended to Cathail O’Connor, Clare Faherty, Diarmuid Faherty, Ciara Faherty, Mary O’Donnell, Sean Faherty and Eimear Gill.

The final competition for the Laois competitors was on Sunday where there were high hopes for the u/15 duet of Diarmuid and Ciara Faherty. While narrowly missing out on medals their performance was highly commended by the adjudicators.

The competitors brought back to the branch a total of 19 medals and one cup, two first place medals, two second place medals and 15 third place medals.
