Anne Mekitarian

AS part of the Midlands masterclass series, Anne Mekitarian will visit Portlaoise this weekend. Signposts for Success will take place in the Dunamaise Arts Centre on Saturday November 24 from 10am to 4pm.

Inexperienced directors can learn how to tackle a script. The question of where to start, what to look for, how to organise and channel ideas, will be explored in a safe and fun environment.

This interactive masterclass will aim to provide a set of rules and guidelines to give people the confidence to take them through the rehearsal process and on to presenting their first production. Actors, set builders, technicians etc, who are interested in the process, are also welcome.

Anne Mekitarian graduated from Samuel Beckett Centre TCD with BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Studies and M Phil (Irish Theatre Studies). A professional drama teacher, Anne is a director, actor, adjudicator and DLI summer school director. She compiled, devised and directed ‘No Hay To Save In Brooklyn’ (based on Brian Friel’s early plays) and presented it at international festivals in USA, at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, at Gothenburg Celtic Festival and at numerous venues throughout Ireland. Other directing credits include ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘A Phoenix Too Frequent’, ‘Yerma’, ‘Bedroom Farce’, ‘Factory Girls’, ‘The House of Bernarda Alba’, ‘The Plough And The Stars’, ‘Philadelphia, Here I Come’, and ‘Calendar Girls’.
