Admiring the work at the Abbeyleix exhibition

The official opening of the annual Abbeyleix Further Education Centre exhibition took place in the Dunamaise Arts Centre earlier this month.

The work on display in the exhibition space covers many disciplines including, ceramics, textiles, print, drawing and painting. Both the level 5 Art/Craft/Design and the level 6 Art programmes are featured with one piece from every student being exhibited.

The exhibition drew a large crowd and was officially opened by Louise White. Louise comes from a theatre background and had worked with the level 6 programme during the academic year.

The show gives an insight into the processes and concepts explored by the individual art students throughout the year, themes that dominate include; environment, nostalgia, relationships, social commentary and memories. Tutor Jock Nichol spoke on behalf of the Art Department tutors, thanking the Laois/Offaly ETB for their continued support. He also thanked the Dunamaise team for the opportunity to exhibit in such a recognised arena. He paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students. The show will remain in the Dunamaise until June 8 and is always worth a visit.
