The Laois School of Music, in association with DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, and with funding from Laois Partnership Company, are delivering a series of professional development training sessions to music tutors in Portlaoise.
The series of training sessions is designed to further develop general skills for music tutors, in areas such as group teaching methods and resources, while also providing training in more specialist areas such as string tuition and piano tuition.
Tutors from both Laois School of Music and Music Generation Laois are attending a total of six training sessions which began in January and run until June, specifically designed by DIT. This is the first time DIT have delivered such a training programme outside of Dublin.
The Laois School of Music and Music Generation Laois provide weekly music tuition in piano, keyboard, drums, guitar, violin, viola, cello, uilleann pipes, voice/singing, harp, flute, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, African Drumming and Junior/Leaving cert Music in Portlaoise College, as well as kindermusic and The Music Box, a music programme for children with special needs.
