One woman show ‘The Six Marys’ will be performed in Mountrath Golf Club this Friday January 17, and promises to be a fun night.
Written and presented by Athlone woman Jean Farrell, it is described as a comical yet poignant look at life, from childhood in the 1950s, to today, through the eyes of six girlfriends.
The six Marys were young Irish Catholic schoolgirls, taught by the nuns to imitate Holy Mary’s virtues of meekness, humbleness and purity.
These fun loving friends journey through the decades, from teenage pursuits of their Mr Wonderful, to the reality of married life, teenage children and growing waistlines.
The light-hearted play delivers sharp and funny observations, interspersed with well-known hit songs sung by Catherine Gallagher.
The play has been seen and enjoyed by 3,000 people to date, to delighted reviews such as “haven’t laughed so much in years, loved it”.
Mountrath golfer Mary McCarthy saw the show in Portarlington Golf Club and brought it to her club.
The show will be followed by songs performed by members of the Mountrath club, and ‘tees off’ at 8pm.
All welcome, tickets €10.
