Late last month the opening took place of the exhibition ‘Work from Middle’ at the Laois Arthouse in Stradbally.

Many were in attendance including some of the artists of the exhibition, the resident artists of The Laois Arthouse, the local community, and Arts Officer Muireann Ni Chonaill.

The opening began with Muireann Ni Chonaill introducing the exhibition and the artists that were involved. It was a great success. “Work from Middle” is currently on view in the Laois Arthouse gallery. Artists exhibiting include Eoin O’Conaill, Jock Nichol: Croghan Erupting, Ken Wardrop, Lisa Fingleton, Saidhbhín Gibson, Simon Burch and Vera McEvoy.

The theme for “Work from Middle” was inspired by an article by Columnist, Michael Viney, entitled, “Laois and Offaly, I take it all back.” It refers to a publication, “The Geology of Laois and Offaly”, which is the culmination of a lifetime research undertaken by Dr John Feehan, on the broader cultural heritage of Laois and Offaly. A feature of the book is the six specially commissioned paintings illustrating different periods in the geological evolution of Laois and Offaly, by Jock Nichol.
