Almost 80 children and young people from across County Laois experienced a rare and valuable choral workshop opportunity recently, delivered by internationally acclaimed choral conductor and master teacher Dr. Doreen Rao as part of Music Generation’s Choral Training Programme.

The Music Generation workshop was held to prepare students for the Big Sing which took place on April 6, when hundreds of children and young people from across Ireland will gather in the Mansion House Dublin for a national choral performance organised in association with Music Generation, The Association of Irish Choirs, the Choral Music Experience Institute and Local Music Education Partnerships.

US based Dr Rao, Music Director of the Buffalo Master Choral and Director of the US Institute for Choral Teacher Education, is considered a global leader in the field of choral conducting.

The 79 children and their conductors benefitted from a two hour workshop, directed by Dr Rao at Presentation Primary School Portarlington and Errill NS. Dr Rao travelled throughout Ireland delivering Music Generation workshops with local choirs in advance of the Big Sing.
