Retired nurses from across Laois and Offaly gathered in Portlaoise recently for a special event organised to mark three decades of an organisation that has its roots in Laois.
The Laois Offaly branch of the Retired Nurses Association of Ireland held their 30th Anniversary celebration in the Parish Centre, Portlaoise, on Thursday, September 3.
Close to sixty people attended the event from across the two counties to mark the milestone.
The organisation was formed 30 years ago by the retired staff of St Fintan’s Hospital, Portlaoise, which subsequently expanded to become a national organisation with 19 branches throughout Ireland
The association now includes retired nurses from all disciplines.
Relatives of the founding members were in attendance. Matt Farrell spoke about the early days of the organisation.
The meeting was addressed by Chairperson Patrica Honan. Tom Curran from Age Friendly Laois at Laois County Council also spoke and left useful items. There was also a display of forms by Citizens Information.
Thanks were extended to all associated with organising the function, as well as Declan Kelly and the staff at the Parish Centre for hosting the event.
Eddie Phelan and staff were thanked for providing the catering, with appreciation also expressed to Helen and Paula for the anniversary cake.
Gratitude is extended by the branch to all who worked to make this occasion possible.
New members are always welcome.
