Amber helps Santa to make Portlaoise glow for Christmas

Amber Whelan from Portlaoise helped Santa to make her town glow for Christmas 2017.

The the seven year old was on hand to press the button on the Laois town's Christmas illuminations with Santa at the Downtown Portlaoise Christmas Market on Main Street last Saturday.

The Portlaoise Christmas Market is back on Main Street with Santa Claus paying a special visit to Laois for the big day.

This year's Downtown Portlaoise event featured over 60 festive food and craft stalls. The festive atmosphere was added to on the day by lots of carol singing from local groups.

The organisers pulled out all the stops and persuaded Santa Claus to take some time out from his hectic schedule to visit.

He made good time on his trip thanks Rudolf and the other reindeers.

The market took place on Sunday, November 26 from 11 am - 7 pm.

The event was organised by Downtown Portlaoise traders with the support of Laois County Council and Laois Hire.

Photographer Alf Harvey was there for the Leinster Express.
