GIRLS DIVISION 3 - Holy Family girls storm to title against Killadooley

Holy Family Senior School, Portlaoise and Killadooley NS raised the curtains on the Cumann na mBunscol finals in O’Moore Park on Wednesday morning with Holy Family taking home the trophy.

Holy Family NS 11-9

Killadooley NS 6-3

Holy Family’s Ella Hanamy set the scoring underway with a goal and a point in the opening minutes to give the Portlaoise school an early lead. Susie Delaney found her rhythm as she struck for two goals in quick succession, before Rachel Byrne did likewise as Holy Family played with a strong breeze behind them.

Having been unlucky in-front of goal thus far, Killadooley got off the mark through a well-taken Hannah Fitzpatrick goal eleven minutes in. The captain, Sophie Kelly, followed Fitzpatrick’s lead shortly after with their second goal of the day to keep them in the fray.

The second half was a mixed-bag with Holy Family rattling off goals through Hanamy, Byrne and Delaney all bagging braces of goals before Killadooley staged a daring comeback in the final minutes.

With five minutes left to play Hannah Fitzpatrick rattled the Holy Family net, and Cesira Healy did so too a minute later. Amy Daly continued the fightback with a brace of goals in the final minutes but Holy family held tight to claim the title on a scoreline of 11-9 to 6-3.
