BOYS DIVISION 4 SHIELD - Ballyroan hold off late rally from Shanahoe

Ballyroan withstood a late Shanahoe fightback to claim the Roinn 4 Shield in an eleven-goal clash.

Jake Keane opened the scoring with a fine point for the Ballyroan men. Tommy Ward levelled the proceedings for Shanahoe shortly after, but Ballyroan went straight on the attack.

Two goals in as many minutes from Odhran Dunne and Lee Palmer, followed by a Stephen O’Donnell point gave Ballyroan the lead. Shanahoe hit-back when Killian O’Keefe got the final touch in a goalmouth scramble.

Ballyroan fired off two points through a Keane free and a Jack O’Dea single  - but Shanahoe closed out the half with Dion Cuddy raising the green flag to cut the Ballyroan lead to three points at the interval.

Ballyroan quickly built on their lead after the restart with Odhran Dunne grabbing his second goal a minute in, followed by points from Palmer and Keane. 

Shanahoe set about dismantling the Ballyroan lead and four goals on the trot had them in front. Cuddy goaled from a monstrous puck-out, Eoin Drennan hit the top-corner, Cuddy hit the net from another long-range free before O’Keefe hit his second of the day to take the lead.

Ballyroan rallied in the final minutes and goals from O’Dea and O’Donnell followed by a final point from O’Dea saw them crowned champions with two points to spare.
