Extra-time was needed to separate these two teams in the end as Abbeyleix took the honours in a truly thrilling finale.
Camross 7-5 (AET)
Camross opened the scoring two minutes in when Conor Mortimer raised the white flag. Abbeyleix hit-back with a Darragh O’Rourke point, quickly followed by a brace from Ed Slevin to level the game.
Slevin struck 1-1 and O’Rourke a point before Jamie Phelan pointed for Camross. Slevin grabbed his second goal of the day, but Camross replied with goals of their own from Mortimer (2) and Ben Lambe. Slevin hit a brace of points to send Abbeyleix in two points ahead at half-time.
Slevin hit 1-1 directly after the restart to put them further ahead, only for Mortimer to rifle his third and fourth goals to level the sides. Kyle Moore and Jamie Phelan exchanged points with Slevin, and then Mortimer stormed the pitch to steal his fifth goal with two minutes to go.
Amazingly, Abbeyleix substitute Daniel Kavanagh grabbed the equalising goal with time all but up to send the tie to extra-time.
In an end-to-end first period of extra-time Mortimer clinched his sixth goal of the afternoon, and Kavanagh landed a beautiful point for Abbeyleix as they trailed by two heading into the second period of extra-time. Slevin fired his fourth goal into the top corner thirty seconds after the throw-in, O’Rourke landed a point, and Kavanagh hit the net twice as Abbeyleix sealed the title in dramatic fashion.
