Paddy Dunne from Rosenallis defeated his opponent Edward Finnerty via TKO punches in round one of his first ever attempt at cage fighting.
Our photojournalist Tom Cullen interviewed Paddy on behalf of The Leinster Express before the bout.
“It’s been a long but incredible journey. It’s completely changed my lifestyle,” he said.
“The dedication you have to give is next level. I’ve been in the gym at 6.30am three times a week for the past six months and I’ve lost just over three stone in weight. I feel amazing.”
This was Straight Blast Gym (SBG) Tullamore’s first ever Wimp 2 Warrior Cage Fighting competition and the event was held in Tullamore’s Court Hotel. Paddy fought in front of a crowd of over 600 people with many of his friends, family and what felt like the entirety of The Rosenallis GAA club cheering him on.
After the fight Paddy was very humble in his celebrations and simply saluted his friends and family. “You have to give massive respect to Edward for fighting me. He’s been on this 6 month journey with me and we’ve become great friends. I know how much effort he’s put in. I am happy with the win but I'm happier he's ok.”
When asked would he do it again Paddy replied “Absolutely. I’d fight again right now if I could but I’ll settle for a pint instead.”
