Laois Macra na Feirme is holding a photography exhibition this week which came out of an idea to promote farming and Macra.

Laois Macra PRO Niamh Ryan came up with the concept.

"Everyone has a phone and we all send snaps to each other so I wanted to get people sharing their farming pictures. The competition got people sharing their photos on Facebook and there was a great bit of excitement near the end of each month getting the last few likes on their pictures.

“I’m so happy with the turnout of photos each month and would like to thank everyone who entered a photo and of course to our amazing sponsors. Big thanks to Mountmellick photography Club for the use of their display boards and to Mountmellick Macra for the use of their hall," she said.

The photos on display are a years’ worth of monthly Facebook competitions. There was a different theme each month.

Entries were made by private mail to the Laois Macra facebook page up to the 20th of each month. The album of entries was then posted to the page for people to vote for their favourite by the end of the month.

The organisers are promising a great night at the awards ceremony and photo exhibition on Friday, November 16 in the Mountmellick Macra Hall.

Each of the 12 monthly winners wins a morning photography lesson with photographer Alf Harvey.

On the night, main sponsor Atkins Farm Machinery Birr will select the overall winner. The winner will get a two night BnB stay in the 5 star Castlemarytr Hotel in Cork. Second prize sponsored by AgriSpec Rathdowney is a €75 voucher. Everyone is welcome to attend the night starting at 8pm with light refreshments.

Laois Macra thanked MW Hire Urlingford and B.Fergus Photo Portlaoise for their sponsorship.
