PICTURES: Dumped 'stolen' cable and household waste 'destroying' Laois countryside

Gardaí in Laois have urged people to report any incidents of illegal dumping after a pile of cable that is likely to have been stolen was illegally dumped alongside household waste.

The pictures in the gallery above show the illegal dumping on the Laois Offaly border between Killoughey and Coolagh Cross on the R421.

Crime Prevention Officer for Laois and Offaly, Graham Kavanagh, has urged people to report those who carry out these crimes.

"Our beautiful countryside is slowly being destroyed by littering and fly tipping. There are plenty of communities working to keep our countryside clean and litter free for some criminal elements to arrive in the dark of night or early morning and dump their household waste. The cable covering is more than likely from stolen cabling," he said.

The pictures in the gallery above show the extent of the dumping.
