PHOTOS: 'Do something before we are washed away' Portarlington photographer's dramatic images

Laois Offaly town under floods in recent days from River Barrow

A Portarlington photographer's dramatic drone photos of his town in flood have underlined the danger to the Laois Offaly town from flooding of the River Barrow.

Con Murphy has given a passionate plea for action to end the repeat flooding in his town, with "disruption continuing" this Monday after days of heavy flooding.

"This is the battle we face every year in Portarlington with flooding. It’s a living nightmare for the residents of Bottley Court and Spa Street that has to be lived through every year.

"I was at the meeting in the Library over two years ago that Laois County Council were showing for the flood plain plan. What’s happened since. NOTHING. The banks of the river are all grown in and the river is full of silt.

"It’s only going to get worse with global warming. The answer is simple…….Do something about it before we are all washed away," Mr Murphy said.

He has kindly shared his drone photographs of the area with the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
