Local scouts groups have shown their great abilities and kindness to others by running hugely successful collections of food and clothes for people in need this Christmas.
The 4th Laois Scouts Portarlington youth members ran a food appeal earlier in December. They had a fantastic response and gather non-perishable food which they later donated to the Portarlington Lions Club. For years, the Lions Club has been delivering food hampers to people in need at Christmas time.
Cubs from the South Kildare Scout County, which Portarlington scouts are part of, also held a drive to gather toiletries and supplies to give to Portlaoise Action to Homelessness (PATH).
PATH shared an update on Facebook about the donations it has received recently.
“A few weeks ago the scouts in Portarlington asked us to go over and give a talk about the work we do. Joe and Robert went over to them. We were invited back on Monday to collect what they had gathered. We could not believe the huge collection in front of us. It was phenomenal!! Thank you so much to all who contributed and to their leaders and parents!”
PATH brings toiletries and fresh clean socks, hats and gloves to homeless people sleeping on the streets of Dublin city centre every Saturday night.
