It was a day on bonding on ice for Mountrath Community Students last January 11, when the Meitheal leaders in 6th year brought first year students to Dundrum ice rink.

Led by teacher Anne Moore, the field trip to the ice skating arena proved a perfect opportunity for the younger students to integrate and grow in confidence and endeavouring to master ice skating skills.

The Meitheal programme gives the opportunity to 6th year students to step beyond their own needs and act on the needs of others, by offering friendship and support to first years.

For many of the first year students, it was their first time to try ice skating. The students later took the opportunity to go shopping in Dundrum town Centre.

Clare Duff is a Meitheal leader.

“It was a brilliant opportunity to get to know the first years and to do a really exciting team building exercise together,” she said.

First year Olivia Barney said that it was great to do some team building outside the school. Evan Conroy is also in first year.

“It was a very good opportunity to go team building and then shopping with the leaders,” he said.
