St Patrick's Boys NS in Portarlington held their first annual Grandparents day on Friday January 19, as part of Catholic Schools Week, and it was a huge success.
Over 130 grandparents visited all 16 classes to see their grandchildren.
They were treated to songs, poems, and demos of interactive whiteboards, science experiments and ipads.
Some grandparents got involved in project work, and also shared their own school stories. Many brought in artefacts from the past. One great grandmother even did a bit of Irish teaching.
They also enjoyed refreshments organised by SNAs and resource teachers, and a slice of cake, a surprise from a local supermarket.
Principal of the 400 pupil school is Pat Galvin.
“We were thrilled with the response we got from the community, it is something I can see becoming an annual event.
“It was great to see the young and old interact and share their experiences. The smiles on both grandparents’ and grandchildren’s faces were heart-warming,” said organiser Michelle Doran.
