Technology is a part of daily life for children at Abbeyleix South National School in Laois.
The school has interactive whiteboards, laptops and digital cameras in every classroom.
Now the school has been awarded for its efforts to encourage excellence in the use of technology, with a Digital School of Distinction Award Flag, accredited by the Department of Education.
Pupils, staff, parents and friends all gathered on Wednesday February 20 to see the flag raised.
Principal Ruth Wallace said that becoming a Digital School of Distinction is a tremendous honour.
She thanked the Parents’ Association for its continual fundraising to purchase more laptops and to continually upgrade them.
The school is now setting up a Green Screen for drama and music activities.
The principal also thanked parent Cliona O’Connell who set up and manages the school website and Facebook page.
“Our school is equipped to a very high standard. Our aim is to continue to develop our pupils’ skills. This is by no means the end of our technology road. Like technology itself, we will continue to evolve”.
