Laois students enthralling talks on Harry Styles and medicine

Mountrath Community School second year students Jessica Parkinson and Miriam Senior enjoyed an enlightening and stimulating day at the junior regional public speaking competition hosted in St Kieran's College in Kilkenny . 

Teacher Mr Martin O'Neill and the students of St Kieran's College hosted the event, on Friday, March 11.

Mr Cillian Hegarty, English teacher in Mountrath Community school entered two students, Jessica and Naomi for the event. Mr Cillian Hegarty said that it was 'a unique experience for the students to prepare and perform their presentation , to gain confidence and enjoy the event , documented by many stimulating speeches'. 

Miriam Senior commented that the day was really interesting and I really was captivated by some of the speakers. 

Jessica Parkinson said  that she hoped to continue participating in the public speaking competitions and events. She said that the day at St Kieran's was really enjoyable. She would recommend public speaking  in MCS.

Jessica spoke about the influence of Harry Styles on Society. Mr Hegarty said that Jessica drew the audience in and captivated them with her wit and delivery.

Miriam spoke about the inequality of women in medicine. Mr Hegarty said that it was a significant and worthwhile speech, which also enthralled the audience. Well done to both students on their success today.

Ms Kathryn O'Brien , principal of Mountrath Community school, said that the wonderful opportunity to get involved in developing your public speaking life skills, and that it was great to see the interest in this in MCS.
