October is county final season in Laois, and Camross kicked off proceedings with by retaining the Laois SHC title, the first team to do it since 2004.
It proved to be a controversial final, with Ross King leaving the field injured in the first half. A video emerged online afterwards showing the incident, involving Darrell Dooley, while social media posts also circulated showing some Camross hurlers apparently mocking King during their celebrations.
It was an unseemly mess and one which overshadowed Camross's achievement in retaining the Bob O'Keeffe Cup.
In football, Portlaoise retained the SFC title after O'Dempsey's put up a good fight for 40 minutes or so, before Portlaoise moved through the gears to claim the win.
Portlaoise also won the SHC 'A' title, with Clough-Ballacolla Mountrath beating The Harps in the MHC final. In football, Ballyroan Abbey defeated Portarlington after a replay in the MFC 'A' final.
October also saw the launch of John Sugrue's Divisional Trial tournament which proved to be a success, raising money for charity and giving players a chance to shine and put their name forward for selection on the county panel.
October also saw young Laois man Jordan Percy make history, as he was the first visually impaired athlete to win a medal at the Irish Open Wrestling Championships, held in Dublin.
