The Laois Senior Footballers made the trip to Croke Park on Saturday to take on Westmeath in the Allianz Division 3 Football League final, but it was a disappointing day at GAA HQ for John Sugrue's men as their poor execution came back to haunt them and Westmeath prevailed with a goal to spare.
Ultimately Laois paid a high price for their fifteen wides across the seventy minutes, as opposed to Westmeath's five, and Ger Egan's 60th minute goal compounded a day in which things didn't click for the O'Moore men.
They met on route to Laois' Leinster final outing last summer with Sugrue's men running out comfortable victors on a scoreline of 4-13 to 1-12, but that game seemed a distant memory in Croke Park on Saturday.
It was the second meeting of the sides so far this year and for the second time Westmeath came out on top, but the counties will meet again in the Leinster Championship quarter-final on the 26th of May in what will be a true test of this Laois squad.
Regardless of Saturday's result, Laois have still secured back-to-back promotions from Division 4 & 3 and will now ply their trade in Division 2 of the League next year.
On hand to catch the supporters on their way to the game was our Photographer, Alf Harvey.
